Following the advice of Mike i thought id start a new thread.
So basically I'm looking at controlling a solenoid(s) via midi. I can see this has been done numerous times but can't seem to find the missing links in order to get this working.

As well as a few robotic drummer projects and i think i may have the hardware side sorted but can't test it with any code. My confusion lies with the different code I've come across.
The schematic that seems simplest that I've found online - on this forum - is attached. I will use this with breadboard. I have bought a few different midi shields in the hope they would help but my lack of knowledge has just cost me money in that department!
Any help would be great.
