midi out probs

hi, using an arduino duemilanove I try the midi drum kit patch wich work perfectly when the borad is powered via usb (tx led flashing) but when I power the board with an adaptor no midi is sent (tx led not flaswhing).
any help is more than welcome.

Have you connected both power and GND from the adaptor? Is the adaptor voltage over 7V? The duemilanove will automatically switch over to the adaptor if these conditions are met.
