miniature limit switch

Hello!

I am working on a project involving steppers and limit switches.
These switches should be hidden in a 5mm aluminium plate. Therefore I have to find sensors as small as possible. So far, I only found mechanical switches that are 6mm thick. I have read about optical limit sensors that might do the job. Would you have any advice about "ultra miniature sensors" that could be that small and that I could use with an arduino?

Thanks for your help.

Hall sensors can be small.
You can find three of them in an old computer fan.

Thank you wawa.
Can i use any type of magnet to trigger hall sensors?
Is there any chance to interfere with the signal if aluminium parts are really close?

There are many hall sensor tutorials online.

Aluminium is non-magnetic.
Try a small neodymium magnet.
You could embed that into the aluminium.
