Minimum distance between nodes

Hi,

I'm making an exercice for my students; I would like them to deploy a WSN from datas such as node battery, data transfert, range,...

I took for an example Arduino Mega + Shield Wireless + Xbee, using Zigbee communication protocol. Do you know if there is a minimum distance to respect between the nodes or between the nodes and the gateways?

I saw some nodes don't have to be put too close each other so I was wondering for this node.

Thank you,

Eikki

The maximum distance depends on a lot of factors - speed, antenna type, line-of-sight vs. blockages, electrical interference, power supply, to name a few.

The whole idea of using routers is to space the devices so that there are usually two or more paths that a packet can take to get from one end device to the coordinator and back.
