Missing COM port on Win7 & Win8.1 & Ubuntu, using DuinoTech Leonardo R3

(Tried looking in forum for same problem, but with 700+ pages, the search results were 100+ pages!)

-- I have A Win8.1 laptop, two Win7 PCs and an Ubuntu v14+ PC.
-- Disabled all Bluetooth, etc serial scanning programs

I still cannot find a port in Device Manager. Usually its just COM1, but that's not the board. Can't find any UNASSIGN/UNKNOWN devices either.

Tried the Loop test (shorted Gnd+RESET & TX+RX pin pairs), no echo on the serial terminal program. (Can't run it at all with machines WITHOUT any COM port!) :frowning:

Since this is just the start of installing a board, this should be one of the top PINNED topics in the forum.

Any suggestions ? Or is LEONARDO really this buggy ?

Thanks!

RAY

The board could have been shipped with a blank chip and not loaded with the Leonardo bootloader. But a common problem people have with new Leonardos is actually caused by Blackberry, who sells a lot of their phones with charge-only cables, and people grab one of those cables out of a drawer and try to use it to upload data on another device (Leonardo). No worky! So, have you tried a different cable?
