Mixed battery types

Hi, This is probably a stupid question but is it ok to use mixed battery types in the same machine. In my case I'm using NiMH batteries to drive some motors and the motor controller but want to use a small light weight LiPo battery to drive the rest of the electronics. As serial data is sent from the Arduino to the motor controller there has to be a common earth between the two circuits and hence the two battery types. Will I cause myself any problems doing this?

Thanks.

No problem, it's perfectly fine. You generally don't want to mix battery types in the same (series) circuit, but different batteries powering parallel circuits is OK.

Great, thanks for the prompt reply!
