MKR 1010 and wifi - ssid with space

I see this issue has been discussed in several places, including here:

But is there a fix for this issue? Bottom line, if the SSID has a space in it, WiFi.begin() won't connect. I understand it's not a great idea to put a space in an ssid. When I'm in charge of all ssid naming I'll remember that, but until then, I need to connect to SSIDs with spaces in the name.
