mkr 1300 LoRa transmission power

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the mkr 1300 LoRa transmission power and if so how that is done

Thanks in advance

Yes and Yes but since it is probably type accepted under Part 15 the FCC does not allow that. If your not form the USA check your communications authority. For more information check this link: https://www.fcc.gov/bureaus/oet/info/documents/bulletins/oet63/oet63rev.pdf

Hi,
What do you want to do with the power adjust, increase or decrease?
What is the application?

Thanks.. Tom...

Thanks for responding. The application is a point to point data transmission from a sensor device to a main device with poor and varying radio visibility in between

Hi,
Have you looked at different antennas that are available?
What frequency are you using?

Have you tested the path?

Thanks.. Tom...

Thanks for responding. It works fairly well now with a better antenna. Frequency 868 MHz (EU). Just wanted to check if it would be possible to increase the TX power. I´m living on countryside so risk of interference to something else should be minimum

If the range needed improving, what were the other LoRa settings that significantly affect range;

Spreading factor ?
Bandwidth ?
Coding Rate ?

conventional wisdom for RF guys: solve all RF problems with antennas to the extent possible, then increase power. $10 spent on antennas has the same effect as $100 spent on amplifiers.

a gain antenna on either end of the link benefits both ends of the link. increasing power at one end only benefits the other end.

if you have one central omnidirectional antenna at a base unit, make it a 15 dbi collinear. if anyone tries to sell you a higher gain collinear, he knows laws of physics he ain't sharing.

( a quick look at ebay shows a max of 8 dbi in this frequency band )

Hi,
Good to hear you have an improvement.
What did you do antenna wise?

Thanks.. Tom..

Be aware that if your in the EU, then most likely your limited to 14dBm with a standard antenna, such as a 1/4wave vertical or dipole.

Adding a gain antenna or increasing transmit power to increase distance may be illegal. Changing the LoRa settings to improve range might well be legal however.
