MKR IoT Carrier (Explore IoT) - Faulty RGB Led

Hello,

I recently bought the Arduino Explore IoT kit from Digikey Canada, the one with the square display and the MKR Wifi 1010 board.
I started to follow the course for the kit and noticed that when using the board for the first few programs, the RGB LED number L3 was always lit in blue, but all of the others were off.

When I got to the Activity 04 "Remote Triggers", I noticed that when lighting up all of the LEDs, the L3 cannot light the blue color anymore. Its green and red colors do light up.

I tried different example programs from the Arduino_MKRIoTCarrier like the strandtest, other programs from the Adafruit Dotstar library and the Arduino_APA102 library, but I could never light the blue color of this particular RGB.

I also tried powering the board with just a battery but it makes no difference.

I noticed that sometimes, the blue color will flicker and try to turn on but it's very random.

So what are my options:

  • It looks like a faulty APA102 so should I get a replacement ?
  • Is there some sort of software reset I can try ?

Thanks

Get a replacement. You paid a lot of money and it is good quality. If something is wrong, then you should get a replacement.
