MKR1000 out of the box got a protective material thurst into and it's conductive

Hi!

Problem solved!

Got my new mkr1000 boards with pin headers presoldered onto. To protect the board and headers they got a black sponge-like protection material thursted into. THIS protection material grounds the board itself! It is conductive! BE carefull to remove it before you connect any power to it otherwise it wont be recognized or boot up or could be damage.

Good point but hopefully most would remove all packaging materials before they use equipment.

Where did you get yours as mine all came with the pins seperate.

I bought them from Hungary (Italy  ) so they are technically Genuinos.

Odd as mine were both shipped from Hungary at different times.

Maybe they got around to doing this to avoid new people having to learn to solder.

Ya, that black foam is moderately conductive.

You can imagine the face i had when tried the first time. I connected an 5V I2C LCD 20x04 not using (not having) a level converter on the buses... Board seemed just died in the first milisec! ( i used that foam not to sracth the table) anyway after atteching mkr into a breadboard life became happy againg
