MKR1010 wifi - FTDI FT232RL USB to TTL Serial Adapter

Hello, everyone,

I've lost the micro usb socket on my MKR1010 wifi card. The socket has come loose and so I have no way of communicating with the board to upload sketches. My question is: can the FTDI FT232RL USB to TTL Serial Adapter be used as an alternative? and how should I use it on the Arduino MKR1010 wifi board?

The MKR1010 uses the on chip USB for communication. A USB to serial cannot be used as a simple replacement (unlike an UNO or similar boards).
