mm verses inches

@westfw:

The 'fake' ones like: hect-, deci-, like in hecto-liter or deci-meter or deci-liter aren't commonly used where I live. Mostly they're used in schools only to pester students to learn how to convert between them, especially if you go from say dm² to mm² and so on.

deci-liters are widely used by barkeepers, as they don't seem to grasp how to work with multiples of 10ml.

heco-liters are traditionally used by wine/beer makers and nothing seems to stop them from passing that on to the next generation. Alcohol seems to have taken its toll.

All in all no really important parts of industry use these idiotic forms, except the food stuff related. As far as I'm concerned, everything that doesn't stick to using powers of 10³ should be banned and massively fined if used nevertheless.
