Do you still require assistance? I have developed SimpleModbusMaster and SimpleModbusSlave. You have already mentioned them. They will communicate with each other as long as you adhere to the schematic on the same site. I have tested them extensively with various industrial and marine equipment and so have other users with great success. Give it try and let us know if you come right.
