Modifying TT Motor Gear Ratio for Arduino RC Car - Need Advice!

Hey everyone,

I'm working on an Arduino-based RC car project, and I'm currently using TT motors for the drive system. I've been thinking about modifying the gear ratio to improve either speed or torque, but I'm unsure if it's practical with TT motors.

My Questions:

  1. Is it possible to replace the gears inside a standard TT motor to change the gear ratio?
  2. If yes, where can I source compatible replacement gears for TT motors?
  3. Are there recommended gear ratios for achieving better speed without sacrificing too much torque?**
  4. Any tips on opening TT motors safely and ensuring the new gears are properly aligned?

I aim to balance speed and control since I’m using a four-motor 4WD setup with an L298N motor driver. Any insights, resources, or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Buying motors suitable for the project will surely be better and faster.

This is why you take pictures of each step so you can reverse the procedure.

Simple fix! replace your driver with one that has MOSFET outputs. The L298N drops about 3 volts when driving a motor.
