Mood Cue is not working

So I have recently acquired a arduino uno starter kit, i am on project 5 (Mood Cue) and my servo is being a PITA (mod edit). It rests at 0 and the jumps up high then goes down (In the serial monitor).

potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 83, angle: 14
potVal: 87, angle: 15
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 85, angle: 14
potVal: 69, angle: 12
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0
potVal: 0, angle: 0

We can't see your starter kit documentation from here. It looks like the servo angle is doing something related to the 'potVal'. Are you turning a potentiometer? Is the 'potVal' following what you are doing with the potentiometer? If not, that is probably the problem. I would guess a bad connection to the potentiometer.

there here is the picture and i just used the preloaded sketch for the code

i have also used three different potentiometers and none have seemed to work

We can’t see your code or your schematic.

The picture isn't sharp enough to be sure but it looks like the yellow and green wires going to the ends of the potentiometer are both connect to GND.
