Mosfet connection

Hi all,

I want to connect a MOSFET to the arduino. I've read other comments but I guess my doubts are more simple. I'm missing something wich I do not know what is it.

I have two MOSFETS, one P-channel IRF9640 and one N-channel IRF3710.

By following this schema :

If I connect nothing to the gate, just connecting the load( led + resistor ), VCC and GND, the led is lightning. No matter if I follow the P-channel schema or the N-channel schema, the led is always on. Is it possible?

No matter where I connect the gate ( VCC, GND, with or without resistors ), the led is on.

I'd appreciate any help.

I guess, I solved the problem. I was connecting them in the opposite way. Silly mistake...

Leaving the gate floating can result in unpredictable results.
