MOSFETs on my SimpleFOC 3.1 board failed during 12V use with correct polarity—looking for troubleshooting help

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased the Makerbase SimpleFOC Dual Brushless Micro FOC 3.1 (with current loop support for BLDC motors, ESP32-compatible), and ran into an issue during initial use.

We were powering the board with a 12V battery and made sure the polarity was correct. However, during operation, the MOSFETs were damaged (appeared to have fried), and we're not sure what might have caused the failure.

Could anyone help us understand what could’ve gone wrong? Are there any known issues with this board or specific conditions that might lead to MOSFET failure? Also, if anyone has experience with troubleshooting or replacing components on this board, your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Does the current rating on the motor "stall current" exceed the current rating for the driver?

Sorry, I should have specified that we had the motor connected to the driver board but never got it spinning. The motor we are using is the iFlight GM4108H-120T Gimbal Motor (GM4108H-120T Gimbal Motor w/ Encoder). There isn't a specified stall current but given the phase resistance is 11.1 ohms and the applied voltage was only about 14V, we shouldn't have seen anything greater than ~1.3A.
