Motion detector on 4m wide

Hi,
I would like to detect a drive through of a 4m wide house driveway. Something like a motion detector. My idea has been a light barrier. Either one, or two to detect the direction of the passing object. Are there better solutions?
The driveway is outdoor, the Arduino could be placed inside. Especially important is that it works reliable during night. An alarm is to be started within a defined period of time by the Arduino. Sending a photo would also be conceivable.
First of all, the main question is how the movement is detected.

Take a search engine of your choice and ask the WWW for "ip cam ".

have a look at jsn-sr04t-ultrasonic sensor - I have used one to detelect changes in river water level

Is the object a vehicle, human, stray cat / dog, deer...? How fast does it move? How far apart are the sensors?

For that you need a camera.
Most internet-connected outdoor security cameras are clever enough to do what you want.
Trigger an alarm from a selecable grid, and send a photo to an email address or a live stream to your phone. I don't see why you need an Arduino.
Leo..

What's the budget?

Try this for starters...

This setup works perfectly. I created it to turn on my shed light as I approach and put away my motorcycle. You can set it up to turn on a camera that starts recording as it's powered on. In the comments, I describe how to adjust the time it remains on. Very simple and rudimentary.

Microwave motion detection sketch for Arduino & ESP8266

HW-MSO3 source, it is NOT effected by light or temperature: HW-MS03 on AliExpress

Most likely a car or a human. Detection should be for security reasons.

What are the advantages of an ultrasonic sensor compared to a light barrier? I thought of a light barrier at first, because I assumed that small movings in the backround e.g. by wind aren´t detected.
