Motion Direction

Hello,
I am trying to design a system that will allow me to detect the movement of bees in a beehive.
I basically want to be able to record how many bees enter the hive and exit the hive over a certain given time period.
Any ideas?
Thanks

A bee turnstile?

RFID tag on each bee?

guys, bee kind to the beeginner !
he is beeing simple about his request.

it would beehoove a beeginner to bee flexible in sensors.
if you comb through the options you might find a honey of a sensor for your project.

You might be able to detect flying bees with a phototransistor array. But determining direction in or out is a real problem.

I've heard of people using IR photo interrupt sensors.

IIRC, they used modulated IR so the sensors weren't as susceptible to interference from sunlight. I think they also had the sensors in the shade.

I think used some sort of structure to force the bees to come and go in certain spots which kind of acted as "a bee turnstile".

I'll see if I can find the information I'm trying to remember.

Your waxing lyrical has stung me into action.
I'll no longer bumble around. Just don't drone on about it
