Motion/Movement Sensor

Hi looking for a project that will build a motion/movement sensor. I'm not talking about one using a PIR which can detect movement near an object, but more if someone tries to move an object then an alarm sounds. I imagine if there is something out there it might use a mercury tilt switch or something similar.
