motor controllers/ project feasability

Hello,
I'm an artist in Miami Florida, i'm working on a piece (on a shoestring budget) which would allow an analog music box ( This item is unavailable - Etsy ) to be sensed by the arduino through a mic(?) which would then simultaneously broadcast the sound (wirelessly?) through speakers and create movement in 5 dc motors which would allow five metal sculptures (weighing a little more than 10 pounds each) to spin (on bearings or pulleys) at different rates of speed (speeding up and slowing down at low rpm) and change direction, hopefully independently? i saw an extender shield ( http://www.liquidware.com/shop/show/DTX/DoubleTall+ExtenderShield ) and figured maybe someone knew whether it would fit my needs for controlling multiple motors or if multiple H-bridges would be better? I'm a total novice but i do have the assistance of an electrical engineer but he is also an Arduino novice...

Thanks Again And Best Regards,

Casey

The extender shield by itself will not help you with your project. A motor shield (that can handle five motors) and an audio shield should take care of most (if not all) of your hardware needs. I would look at ladyada.net or sparkfun.com for the shields
