Motor H Bridge

Hey i was wondering how you could short a motor H bridge, other than running to many volts through it?

Try placing a thick piece of wire across the motor lead connections. Let us know if it works.

Do you want it to act like a brake when it is not powered?
If yes, then zoomkat's advice works, but there's just a danger point in timing, and how to short the pins over the motor.

Cheers,
Kari

If what you're trying to do is stop the motor quickly by shorting it, you can do that by turning on either both low side switches in the H-bridge, or both high side switches.

Does it really do the trick? I have to try that. Thanks!

Cheers,
Kari

Yes, but be aware that you might push very large currents through the H-bridge is the motor is spinning fast (braking is more violent at higher rotation speeds)..

Assuming the motor is not being forcibly driven at a higher speed than its normal unloaded speed, the current pushed through the H-bridge during braking will be no higher than the stall current - and the H-bridge should be designed or chosen to handle the stall current anyway.
