I am using an ardunio uno r3, the l293d chip, and a power supply to try to run my motor. Everything works fine on it's own, but together they just won't run. Help?

I see no GROUND connection between your UNO and the breadboard.
Can you elaborate please? What is a ground connection and what two things should I connect
EDIT: I believe that, in the wiring diagram I am using, the red in black wires connecting to positions four and eight on the l293d chip are supposed to be the grounders
9V block batteries are totally unsuitable for running motors. Use 6xAA instead.
