Motor power supply?

Hi im back with a new topic sorry for that.
So i bought: This motorshield/controller

And i want to plant it in an old RC car which has 2 DC motors 1 for steering 1 for forward/backward.

The normal power supply for the DC motors in the car was a 7.4V batterypack is it better to connect a 9v battery or this original batterypack to the motorcontroller?

But can i connect a 9v Battery to that motorboard?
would that be enough?

Using this?

9V PP3 batteries are useless for motors.

So i better use the battery pack that was in the RC car?

What voltage do the motors need though?

The L298 chip on that board drops just under 2V at no load and just under 5V at 2A (figures from memory, check the data sheet), so you need to check you're leaving yourself with enough volts to drive the motors.

The motors work normally with 7,4V.
But i tested it with 5 volts and that worked aswell.
