Motor Shield voltage drop

Help!!!

I'm building an ROV and I'm trying to drive two 12v 2a bilge umps from an UNO 3 and R3 motor shield.

I have plugged in a 12v supply to the R3 motor shield but am only getting approx 7.5 v from the output of the shield. I have tried running only 1 motor but still have a voltage drop.

can anyone help.

Thanks.

Have you tried using no motors?
Maybe your power supply can't provide enough current.

We are using a car battery as the supply voltage. It is giving us 12 volts

Having just checked without connecting the motors, you are correct, I am getting a small voltage drop across the arduino but I am getting very close to the supply voltage.

Ay suggestions?

Check the battery voltage with the motor connected and turned on. Is it holding up?
What sort of motor control are you using? It could be that this is limiting the motor current if the battery is not.
It could also be a wiring problem with the grounds or with something like an unconnected enable picking up interference.
