motor shield / voltage regulator

Hello,
Totally noob question (first post ever!) re: Lady Ada motorshield and driving hobby dc motors. The FAQ mentions that the shield isn't meant to drive 3 volt hobby motors. However, I'm wondering if I can simply put a 3 volt voltage regulator in the path from the shield to the motor, and have each component be happy.
Would that work?

thanks,
Michael

If you intend the motor to only go in one direction and you do not intend to control it with a PWM signal then the answer is yes.

Otherwise it is no.

Thanks for the reply. Any tips (or pointers to discussion) if one wants to spin the motor in both directions, and control with PWM?
