I have a Motor shield for the Arduino mega 2560 and while using it with EXT Power not connected the power will 'leak' to the motors when no power is supplied? I have come to this conclusion because the motor would only make a small sound whenever commands are executed from the arduino. Is this what is happening or something else because I am worried that when the EXT Power is connected to it may cause problems or damage the board, so should I be worried at all?
Please post diagrams showing the connections in both cases and the program that you are using.
Sorry for any delays but I will try to see if I can find or buy a camera because I really should have one anyway. I will post the photos as soon as possible
Im my experience here diagrams, even hand drawn, are better than photos.
I found some pictures from the net of the shield...
but i dont know hot to add them..
what do i do when it comes up with or somewhat? drag the picture in that opens the link of the picture?
If you want to you can just add a link to the pictures rather than adding the pictures themselves but it is not a picture of the shield that we need, rather details of how you have your motors and power supplies connected.
I found the link to the picture it is at: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fplayground.arduino.cc%2Fuploads%2FMain%2Fadafruit-motorshield.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fplayground.arduino.cc%2FMain%2FAdafruitMotorShield&h=307&w=480&tbnid=CsH9HIX5vKrPjM%3A&zoom=1&docid=D5ch19i_SfO-DM&ei=iCVkU_fnD8jp8AX0_ILICQ&tbm=isch&ved=0CFQQMygBMAE&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=368&page=1&start=0&ndsp=15
I have connected a 12v power supply to the POWER ports and taken the jumper off that gives it power from the arduino, then connecting the motor to Motor A and B or Ground would work but without 'POWER' it would make a small sound indicating it trying to move but there is not enough power going to it. With the sketch motor A turns continuously without stopping just to test it.
Is it that much of a problem or can it damage something sooner or later?
That makes no sense at all. You REALLY need to draw out all the connections on a piece of paper, with pin names clearly labelled. Then post a scanned version or a clear cell phone photo. Do not expect help unless you can provide the information that others need.
I had a talk on another forum and a conclusion was raised that I just try to keep the ext power supply connected while the arduino is running
thanks for the help here
