Hi,
I am completely new too all this.
I have been tasked with a high end motorhome fit out.
The customer wants touch screens automation of lights etc, side pods that are pneumatically operated,
motorised tv screens etc etc.
I came across Arduino and think this could be the answer.
Can anybody help with this project, with sketches, prototypes etc
Regards
Paul

NO. NO. NO.
The buyer of a high end motor home will expect a professional job.
Employ an expert.
Start learning Arduino development now and maybe you will be ready to help with another fit out in 12 months time.

SmartHome.com has some information (and products) that should get you started with home automation.
I'd recommend using off-the-shelf controllers for the "brains" and the user interface, and off-the-shelf remote switches & dimmers for the lights and any standard appliances. You'll probably have to custom build the mechanical parts, but you probably don't need an Arduino for that.
You can build an Arduino-based "receiver" that understands one of the standard home automation protocols and drives motors, etc. But, I'd try to avoid that if possible. You've got a learning curve and whatever you install should be reliable, serviceable, and maintainable, and that's not easy with something custom built, especially if it's your 1st Arduino project.

I bet you have not discussed the price for all this and how much you will get paid for doing all this. I also bet the motor home has already been designed and built and is on the road.
Somebody is feeding you a line of BS.
We used to build circuit boards for Monaco Coaches. High end motor homes! I an assure you all the things you have mentioned have to be designed before the coach is built and installed as part of the manufacturing process. These are not trivial design problems!
