Im wondering if the investigative nature of this project is peeling back too many layers of the onion..
if a protocol exists.
get the faders to move based upon the channel selected of a time stamp protocol from a daw should be what needs to be looked at..
maybe go buy this and pull it apart see whats under the hood and back engineer it.
maybe add a motorized fader for every bank skip! see how the motor steps are triggered. voltage applied and location like a stepper motor reference point. for $80 i think it will give you some insight and not break the bank for experimentation. copy paste this link below.
Let the DAW be the Engine/program allow the USB or Ethernet output the data.

once you get the automation running, then you need amplification input output modules passed through the fader, this will depend on the gain structure of your console. Balanced input/output rack would be nice!
