I'm new to Arduino and was wondering what would be the best setup for the following; I need to be able to make a 3-odd kg bar move backwards and forwards periodically, at a sufficiently high speed (around 0.8-1 m/s), along with a button on the Arduino to act as a "kill switch". I also plan on making this "arm" work in tandem with an identical one sometime later, and so was wondering how they can be configured such that one of the bar "retracts" only when the other bar has extended out too. Any guidance on type of motor that would be best (I am using an h-bridge brushed DC one for now), code etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Is the 3kg bar driving something?
Can you tell us your electronics, programming, arduino, hardware experience?
How far does it have to move?
Is it always the same to & fro positions, or variable ?
What power sources are available?

Also a good description of the purpose of the whole thing is needed rather than just info about some of the elements.
