Microchip has finally released their IDE in a version that runs on OS X. It's about time.
Although I think the Atmel architecture lends itself to assembly language programming far better that Microchip's, I have used PIC processors in a lot of products and I'm comfortable with them.
I am just downloading the Microchip IDE so I don't know how good it is yet. It's written in Java.

It's been in beta for a while. Based on the "Netbeans" Oopen Source IDE, I believe.
Yes, so I see. I'm happy to see more companies porting their IDEs to other OSs. Apparently Wiring will eventually encompass some of the PIC processors and the MSP430 as well. That will be nice.
