MPU6050... Getting basic values?

Hey, so I just set up a MPU6050 (http://www.amazon.com/Kootek®-Arduino-MPU-6050-gyroscope-accelerometer/dp/B008BOPN40/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1381544289&sr=1-1&keywords=arduino+gyroscope) and have it functioning, but as I am fairly new to arduino-based projects I have no idea how to write the code so I can print, say, degrees of tilt.

I have this:

#include "Wire.h"
#include "I2Cdev.h"
#include "MPU6050.h"

MPU6050 mpu;

int16_t ax, ay, az;
int16_t gx, gy, gz;

void setup()
{
  Wire.begin();
  Serial.begin(38400);

  Serial.println("Initialize MPU");
  mpu.initialize();
  Serial.println(mpu.testConnection() ? "Connected" : "Connection failed");

}

void loop()
{
  mpu.getMotion6(&ax, &ay, &az, &gx, &gy, &gz);
  Serial.write((int)ay);
  delay(50);
}

But that prints a random mass of characters.
Thanks!
