MSGEQ7 is not playing nice

HI
i bought the MSGEQ7 Seven Band Graphic Equalizer Display Filter IC, and wired it up according to the tutorial that i found
http://skoba.no-ip.org/msgeq7/index.html
and used the sample code.
but results im getting is, all 7 readouts are nearly the same and start at the reading 810 then works its way down to the reading 0, in about 10 seconds. this happens even when there is no input.
the only difference to the tutorial is that i used (first a 22pf then 2 together to make 44pf) capacitors insted of the desired 33pf, the results were still the same, i even changed the chip. Any help would be much appriceated :).

You might try posting a picture of your setup.

Have you connected a common ground between your breadboard and Arduino.

I would assume that the linked set-up works.. The question is of course how the OP's wiring looks like.
A different C migh slighly influence the mid frequencies of the channels, most likely no one would ever notice... Tuning the R would mend this within the involved range : keep RC = 200k33p....

thanks to all.
i needed the 33pf capacitor for it to work.
thanks again.

i needed the 33pf capacitor for it to work.

You need all of the circuit for it to work. Do you think people just put extra parts on an IC to annoy you?

it feels like it some times
