multiple arduionos

hi everyone, i was wondering if i could connect 2 ardunios to the same computer... if so, they will be assign automatically to different serial ports?

thanks,

sbx

I think you can, and yes, they'll be assigned different serial ports. The USB serial driver will take care of it, and under Linux, for example, you'll get /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1.

cool, are there any issues with this? im on os x....

No I'm on Mac and it works fine.

Ditto on the "works fine." I have two Arduinos connected to my Mac right now...

Note that it's pretty easy to confuse yourself with such a setup, and download your code into the wrong arduino! I wonder if symbolic links would work?

Right, I was going to ask if there's any sane way to figure out which port is which. Just plug 1 in and see what it gets called, then plug in the next and see what that one is called? Will the ports change if you plug in the boards in a different order?

In MacOSX, the ports show up as /dev/tty.usbserial-, so they stay the same. Can't speak for windows :frowning:

Symbolic links ("ln -s /dev/tty.usbserial-A20e1eAN /dev/tty.Arduino") do not seem to show up in the tools/ports menu, though that might be a fixable "bug"...

Sigh. It looks like this "decision" is buried down in standard Java classes (CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers) rather than in the Arduino application itself...

btw, i was wondering, if i connect 2 arduinos to a usb hub, and put them in a casing, can i count on it that the "porting" will allways be identical? sorry, i just cant test it cause i dont have 2 arduinos at the time
