Multiplexing TX Port

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it was possible to use a multiplexer IC to control multiple devices with one serial port on the Arduino?

My output is a series of hex values and i was wondering if it would be able to preserve the serial data?

Regards,

Isaac.

It is possible. How many devices, and why not just use a processor with multiple UARTs?

I am currently using an Arduino Due with 4 UART options... However im looking at controlling and reading values from many more devices.

I investigated the possibility of using regular pins as UART ports and wassuccessful in doing so however it's a bit more complex.

Would the multiplexer comprimise the serial data?

a couple of theese can do the multiplexing.
U'll only be able to listen to one unit .. with the risk of losing data from a unit not selected

RS-485 is a common 2-wire approach having a master communicate with many slave devices. A Max-485 chip can be used.

communication is half-duplex. The transmitter needs to be enabled to transmit and disabled to listen.

RS-485 USB adapters are inexpensive
