It uses 5v led strip lights, then a 12v 1.5a power supply with a Transformer DC DC Step Down Voltage Reducer 12V to DC 5V 10A 50W dc.
Pardon my ignorance, but why use a 12v psu with a step down transformer if the led strip is 5volt. Why not just use a 5v power supply instead.
Thanks
I guess the person who built that project dug in his box of unused parts, found a 12V wall wart, hooked that up to a DC/DC converter he had in another pile of unused parts, and with that got the properly regulated 5V supply he needs. That's roughly what note 4 on that page tells as well.
Thanks, yes I realise that now, and if I do the same project, I have a 5v 10amp power supply I can use without having to buy a stepdown transformer. Also, I wouldn't need the 7806BT 6V regulator.
I already have a sparkfun sound detector and 10K var resistor, or a 10k pot in my case
