The plug doesn't fit into the Arduino port.
The come in different sizes. (I don't know the size of the Arduino jack and I don't have one in front of me to measure.)

Better still, don't use that socket at all. Power the Arduino from usb or using an external 5V PSU to the 5V & GND pins.
Alternatively, cut off the plug and attach male crimp plugs to the wires. Connect these plugs to Vin and GND.
And after you "fix" the problem you will be disappointed by the performance of the 9V battery. It doesn't have the capacity to power more than the board for very long.
