My Arduino UNO flashes ON for a split second, then turns off. Please help

I was experimenting from a video and accidentally shorted the 3.3V and GND ports. Now it won't turn on even when plugged in. It is also not recognized by the system.

Sounds like it's time to buy a new one and chalk this one up to experience.

Welcome to the forum!
Can't help you, but I'm interested in what others have to say here. Advice dispensed elsewhere on the forum suggests that the Uno R3 board should be protected from short circuits by a polyfuse. Your 3.3V voltage regulator may be fired, though...

You probably damaged the 3.3V regulator.
And if it is damaged, it may also be compromising the 5V.
Below is the schematic of the power part of the Arduino UNO R3.
The red arrow shows the 3.3V output, and the orange circle the 3.3V regulator.
If you are skilled at removing SMD components, you can remove this regulator and check if your Arduino works, of course without the 3.3V.
If it works, you can install a new regulator.
