My first experience with the Arduino.

I am a subscriber to Nuts and Volts magazine and they are currently tutoring a beginners course on the Arduino. This got me interested so I bought a uno r3 board.

I did their first lesson and it consisted of downloading the IDE, compiling the MyBlinky program, and then uploading it to the uno r3. I was successful at getting this done.

Now I have three questions about it.

With the Atmega 328 now loaded with the MyBlinky program could I move the processor over to a breadboard, make all the correct electrical connections, and have a standalone processor running the program?

I notice the uno r3 has a power jack on it. I am not sure of it's purpose. If I power it up through this jack will it run the MyBlinly program with no usb connection to my pc.

I have some new Atmega328s. Could I plug one of them into the uno r3 and download the bootloader program using the IDE?

Thanks for any help. Hopefully, I do not offend with too many questions on my first post.

Yes, check the exhibition gallery - http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?board=29.0 - there are some examples

yes, you can

Check - http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoISP - there are more related articles.

I find it easier when I suspect memory issues to simply grab the .elf file from %temp% and process it to get the memory allocation. This avoids having to insert the memory code snippet. Thanks to others, we now have a set of scripts that support Window, Linux, and iOS:

Sorry y'all ... I'll get the hang of having multiple windows open sooner or later - not! I miss DOS.
