Got my Super surprise box in today. They really pack this stuff in there.
As you can see mine has a wide assortment of parts. I'll never be able to use most of this but its been fun sorting threw it all. Still need to track down what some of this stuff is for.
Assortment of caps, wire wound resistors and fuses.
Shipping kind of sucked. It was $14.14 not to menchen having to me meet the $10 minimum purchase. So i had to add an LED assortment and a header assortment. So all in all i spent just over $27. But i think the variety of items in the box made up for it.
Anyone know of any other companies that do that kind of thing. I will need to get myself one of these for some general random components. I am tempted by the ginormous box but I think the stuff that comes in the smaller one would be more useful. Two random boxes coming to me maybe
I bought an Electronics Grab Bag-Large from Surplus Shed (http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/egb3.html). It is pretty expensive though ($50), but shipping is only $5. I got a ton of stuff. Not sure if I'll be able to use it all though. I probably got 5 or 7 nice toggle switches that would have run $4 or $5 new. Some neat PCB mounted push switches with led indicators. And a bunch of 1% resistors in a few values. By a bunch I mean probably 3,000. There were some large caps a bunch of fuses, some header, ribbon cable and what look to be a few 60V power supplies. There were also a few circuit boards that do video overlay text (I'm guessing based on the chips on them). It looks like there is a RTC IC on one. Then there was one large electronic item and I have no idea what that is.
I'll try to post some pics later today. I probably got my money's worth.
I once did something similar to this; while e-goldmine is essentially "local" to me, I've never ordered anything from them!
Instead, I go to this other place in south Phoenix, called "Apache Reclamation and Electronics" (it's where I found my $100.00 Altair - no kidding).
Sometimes they get in things from tech benches and whatnot, and because they don't want to sort them they sell them to you at "scrap" prices; so, one day I went out into their back "yard" area outside, and found a box (plastic bin) of waterlogged components (it had rained). Some were ok, some was trashed; some were rusted but would clean up.
Anyhow, I took it in and asked how much; $80.00 later and many hours sorting and googling components, I probably ended up with $500.00 worth of stuff; a ton of various IC's (many 74xx TTL stuff, plus about 50 ULN motor driver ICs, tons of small PNP transistors, etc), lots of resistors, several 8-bit CPUs (6809, 8080, etc), diodes, and other things. Plus the plastic bin/box.
It's a great place to shop and browse; prepare to get dirty and dangerous, though - I've been going for almost 20 years now, ever since I moved to the Phoenix area, and sometimes I wonder if something is going to fall on me or otherwise injure me. They sell tons of surplus and old parts (they have one neglected back-room filled with NOS vacuum tubes!); as well as old/surplus/broken equipment (they've had an old industrial 50 watt CO2 laser sitting around for about 10 years now). It isn't as cool to wander as the aisles of Equipment Exchange (another favority Phoenix haunt), but at least an individual can purchase most things there (EE sells mainly lab/fab equipment - for example, you can buy old industrial robots or wave soldering lines).
Shipping is the only down side to these guys. Not only was it over priced but it took longer then it should to get here. I ordered from 2 other sites a few days after ordering this and they showed up the same day or the day before.SO they where a bit slow to process the order. The same day i placed those other 2 orders i placed another one from the gold mine. It arrives tomorrow. Then i'll have a dual 8 segment LED display and a 2x16 LCD to play with.
Yeah I once ordered the small box too :). I'm glad I didn't buy the bigger one, because it took about an hour to sort through and identify everything in there!
I've found some use from the capacitors and audio jacks, etc.
btw have you had any fun with that surprise box I sent you?
hehe mostly it's been sitting in the corner of my room, but I've got eventual plans to desolder everything from one board and make it into a piece of art ;D.
I did get some of those slide pots though, along with countless LEDs. I still don't get what that video module thing does :P. Looks like it's pretty sophisticated :O.
