So I have picked up a mystery Biotech Device that was destined for the garbage. So the story is it was part of a large testing rig that was never implemented by a large fortune 500 Bio Tech company and after years in storage the whole kit was auctioned off. Unfortunately by the time I got to it the guy had tossed or sold all the cables that went with it.
Anyways, it looks really expensive and if I can identify it perhaps I can sell it, or my other thought is to start parting it out because there are ALOT of awesome components on this rig.
I see it has about 25 air relays that all go inside the case to the underside of a locking handled apperatice. The entire thing is enclosed in a sealed sound proof casing and there are 50 female SMA connection leads coming out in which 25 are labeled positive and 25 negative. Then the 4 air relays on top, this thing has got an intense amount of I/O going on.
Ok so I have identified the air relays in the last picture. SMC Pneumatics 12v air valves $50 each x 30. Uhm, there $1,500 just in the rack of air valves!
There are some unidentified 'current sense board's' that all the 50 SMA connections are tied to with the name Jabil Nypro which appears to be a large medical device manufacture but are also in all other industries as well. A part number turns up nothing.
The big 4 air cylinders on top are a double acting, single rod cylinders about $35-$45 each.
The 4 USB intefaces on the back are fully RF protected interfaces "The interface provides >80 dB RF isolation from 700 MHz to 8 GHz and has USB power autodetect." USB 2.0 RF Protected Interface Datasheet
The is no pricing anywhere, its all call or contact for a quote so they can't be cheap. I can't find a single used one anywhere on the market. Going to call them tomorrow and see what gives.
So this whole box is RF interference protected since the box itself is RF protected. But what are the air lines doing and what is the deal with the crazy looking latching box inside the box??
That is a pretty cool find. The pic with the top open showing the nozzles makes me think of check valves for breathing machines I worked on during Covid. It's probably some kind of calibrated mass flow testing rig but you'd have to check all those nozzle diameters very carefully to confirm that.
Definitely put those SMC valves up on Ebay. Give me a part number and I might even be able to get my employer to make you an offer.
