Hello,

I am trying to upload code to my Arduino Nano Every. Everything seemed to be working fine and the code was uploading, but now that I have added a battery pack the code won't upload. I don't know if the battery pack is related as I hadn't used the Every for a few days when I added the battery pack and attempted to upload again.

The batteries are not in the battery pack when I am connecting via USB to upload code, I am aware that powering via both at the same time can cause issues. The Arduino seems to still be running the previous code I had uploaded (taking measurements and reading to an SD card) but won't upload the new code.

At the moment it is getting stuck on "uploading" forever and never finishes, although I have been getting the following error:

```arduino
avrdude: jtagmkII_reset(): timeout/error communicating with programmer (status -1)
```

I have the board set to the correct megaAVR Nano Every board and the port set to the correct port (COM13, disappears when I unplug the device). I'm not sure what the issue is as the Nano Every was working fine before but has stopped uploading now.

Cheers

I managed to get a full error code an attempt that failed rather than uploading forever:

I do not have that board but it appears you may have a bad cable or something connected to a pin causing conflict with the loader. Post an annotated schematic showing exactly how it is wired and power sources as well. Does it keep sending data to the terminal when in terminal mode?

I have built a second prototype with a different Nano Every and it is all working now. I think I may have burnt the processor on the first Every when I was figuring out the batteries.

Good Job, it appears you found the problem.

Here's how:

This damages the 5V-regulator.
Protection is possible:
