Nano powers up but no port offered

I have two identical Nanos. Almost certainly clones. Both were working fine. Tools > Port showed COM7 and Device Mgr showed 'USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM7).

But I reckon I've somehow damaged one. No port is being shown in IDE or Device Mgr when it's plugged in. Nowhere in Device Mgr is there any obvious entry.

I run the Blink sketch on the good one, then replace with the bad one, whose red LED lights but that's all.

After an hour or so I'm ready to give up my attempts to resuscitate it.. But even Nano clones are not that cheap, so before I do bin it are there any other steps I should try please?

You could try using the good one as programmer for the other one.

Do you think there may be some metal debris on or below the bad one?

Just in case, clean it thoroughly with a tooth brush or something similar, and make sure you put it on top of a non-conductive surface when you power it on.

And prepare to do what @ZX80 suggested

Thanks both. I did give it a good brushing as a first step and it’s mounted in the same clean breadboard as the good one. I’ll explore your suggestion ZX80, although pessimistic as it was working…
