nano with ethernet shield

i want to know if i can connect an arduino nano to the ethernet shield by connecting the pins form the nano to the appropriate pins to the ethernet shield

Sure, why not? Its the same connections the PCB would make thru a shield header.
If you have long wires, that could be unstable. Keep them short.
