Need a solution to the Arduino Mega and W8 driver problem... see below

Is there a working solution to the Arduino Mega 2560 and Windows 8.1 (64bit) driver problem.
I have tried all of the following to NO avail.

1). Disabled Driver Certification and tried installing it that way, no luck.
2). Tried the Compaq, modem trick install, this gave a device does not exist error, no luck.
3). Tried the "Certificates" for local machine, per internet work around.
4). Tried the Arduino Website, install new driver, browse etc. and the "Arduino.inf" doesn't show up.
5). Tried the right click on the inf, and install, did not work.
6). Tried the using the "Older" Mega (I am using a version 2 board), right click and install, no luck.
7). Tried #5 & #6 while comp had the "driver certify" function disabled, no luck...

I also tried the inf installers in the old and new(est)/beta arduino IDE no luck..

so, is there a working "Signed" driver? Or a Working solution to this?
Just a side, note, I have also read and tried the solutions that where given on this site, no luck.

What version of IDE?

Supposedly in 1.0.5r2 this was fixed. From the Downloads page release notes:

ARDUINO 1.0.5-r2 - 2014.01.08

  • Signed drivers for Windows 8.1
  • Fixed Windows drivers signature (that prevented installation on
some Windows 8.x OS). Now the signature is timestamped and should
    not expire.

That said, I only use boards with FTDI chip for USB/Serial myself; I have an Uno and a Mega, but I use some older Duemilanove's for testing (that have been re-bootloaded as Unos) when I am not using my own 1284P based hardware.

I have tried the 1.0.5 and even the 1.0.6 beta, no go on both......

any other suggestions?

Sorry, no. I use Win7 Pro myself. MrsCrossroads uses Win8.1, not sure if she's connected to any 16U2 equipped boards since getting that laptop.

Oh, and forgot to mention, I have also installed and tried to use it with 1.5.8 as well, to include,
all the above "Pet Tricks", and still no joy.......

I guess your just screwed if you have W8.x .......

Man, this is so freaking aggravating!!!
so much for the Father-Son project.......

I hate to ask this, but does anyone know who and how to get in touch with the "Arduino" people?

Is there any way to find out IF or When they may have a "Working" signed driver that would
work with W8.x (64 bit), and the Arduino Mega??

Please understand, i am NOT trying to be a jerk in any way... But, I really need a solution, that is above this users reach. It appears that this is a OEM Arduino level fix...

IF they or anyone here who HAS gotten these things to work in some other way, than I listed in posts above,
please let me know, perhaps we could do the Skype thing or the like.

Scott

Hey Nick,

Would you be willing to ask the "Power that be" at Arduino, when they might have a working solution to the Mega W8(64) communication driver issue? Or, even IF they plan to fix it, if not I will just move on to something else and not waste anymore time on it.

Scott

Hi CrossRoads,

I am not having any luck getting answers, is there any chance you might know one of the Developer guys, to see if/when they might get a working driver for W8.1(64bit) and Aruduino Mega?

Sorry, to bug you, but it appears you are one of the few that try to help, and give ongoing feedback.

Scott

Have you got a link to the actual board you bought?

MrsCrossroads says when the driver was being installed, it popped up in a window behind a window, so stuff had to be minimized and moved around it see it.
See the topic here:

Problem with installing UNO on Win 8.1. I've searched, read, and tried but can't get UNO installed. When I tried the Adruino recommended download and double clicked on the saved file I got the error message "How do you want to open this type of file (.6-windows[1])?" "Look for an app in the Store".

If that is Wondows 8 RT, I thintk you have a problem... If it isn't in the App store you can't have it. If it is on Intel you can download and install what you like.

Crossroads:

My issues is not installing the IDE that went fine, the issue is I cannot load a working driver,
to talk to the Arduino Mega 2560 (rev 2 board). Please see extensive list of things I have tried,
and had no luck with in my posts above, it is just very frustrating to say the least.
I do realize it is STUPID Micro$h!ts fault for making W8.x as user Un-friendly as possible if you are a PC user.
