Need advice for a good adc for load cells

Hi,

I have a project where I'm using two load cells together. When I bought them, they came with a little ADC (the HX711) but the sample rate is too slow (about 80HZ). I would like to sample around 5000HZ. Do you know a good ADC with this sample rate (a 2 channel would be grate) and that interract well with an arduino UNO.

Thank you for your time

fast adc ?

Your problem may well be that the inertia of the load cell combined with the force applied may make sampling at that frequency pointless .You also have to think what you will do with all that data streaming in.
Some more info on your project might be useful .

Hi,

the purpose of the loadcells is to measure the impact force of drum sticks on a wooden plate. We thought first to piezo. But we don't only want to be able to measure impacts but also to know if the plate is pressed (on/off) and to be able to know which force is beeing applied on this plate (measuring the weight on the loadcell). But the piezo are not able to measure weight (if I'm not wrong).

Thank you for your quick answers

Sampling at least 5000 times per second or faster with a 24 Bit A/D per load cell should do it. I would suggest you do a lot more research and then completely define your problem, that will make it go a lot easier. Consider the amount of bits you will be processing and the memory requirements. You might want to talk to the professor and explain why this might not work and ask for advice. This response is to help you get started in solving your problem, not solve it for you.
Good Luck & Have Fun!
