Brand new to Arduino. Reading a lot of posts.
Been setting up my galvo laser to use UGS > Arduino Uno > CNC Shield> External stepper drivers to control the Z stepper motor I have on the tower and an X table. So my question, if I am using external stepper drivers, is there any need for the shield?

Probably the biggest reason is that there are many grounds available on the headers. And places where 5V is available over the bare Uno.
It is convenient to connect limit switches.
You can use the jumpers to clone an axis.

OK, Already have it, so I'll use it. It is nice to have a ground pin next to almost every other pin.
