Need help brainstorming a car project

Hello new to arduino I am an AV/ home automation tech. I was looking into doing some custom car lights recently and seen that people were using multiple led sequencers on one car. They were basically wiring one hot and multiple grounds to a controller at each light which seems like a lot of extra time and working parts. I have no experience working with addressable leds or arduino. What I would ultimately like to control would be 4 tail lights 6 blinkers and 4 halo rings. Here are a couple of key notes and questions I have and any other input valuable to the project is appreciated.

Project requirements
Inputs for running lights, left + right turn signals, brake lights, back up, and a couple show modes.

Be compatible with 12 volts

Be somewhat easy to modify so I can build custom lights.

Couple questions to start with
What happens when you split the data wire? Does it address 2 leds at 0 first in string?

How reliable are addressable leds and arduino? Do they tend to fail often? If so what is known to fail example just single leds?

I'm not sure how many total leds will be on project but I'm guessing over 50 less than 100. What leds would you reccomend?

Use the search function in the upper right of this page to search for addressable leds and similar key words. You will probably find previous project discussions and code using these devices.
