Need help choosing IMU or compatable hardware.

I need some help and guidance. I am designing a camera mount for my motorcycle that will tilt the camera in the opposite direction of my lean to keep the camera even with the horizon. I have been able to accomplish this on my bench using a 5DOF IMU but I'm hoping to be able to use cheaper IMU from sparkfun. Any ideas?

Also... since I haven't been able to test it in a real world application yet, do you think the g-forces induced on the IMU during a corner will affect the calculated angle of lean?

Any other advice about this project would be greatly appreciated also.

Mount the camera on your helmet. Use the IMU in the helmet. It’s faster than the Sparkfun one, more accurate, and not affected by cornering g-forces. Or g-strings. 8)

If you're using an accelerometer to determine orientation then yes, certainly. You need a gyro system rather than an accelerometer, to detect lean over short timescales. Since the gyro will be vulnerable to drift over the longer term, you could use an accelerometer (averaged out over a very long timescale) to keep the gyro zeroed.

This seems very similar to the camera gymbal system provided by some drones and I've read that the Arduplane project provides a gymbal control, so that would offer a ready made solution.
