Need Help debugging MFRC522 RFID reader

Pretty much what it says on the tin. I bought a mfrc522 RFID reader and a few tags from eBay a few weeks ago, as well as a kind of electronics starter kit (breadboard, wires, resistors etc.), and a pretty high-quality Arduino clone that's known under the name Adeept.

So here I am trying to wire this thing up and upload an example from the MFRC library when a red led on the reader labeled "D1" turns on and I get this message:

Firmware Version: 0x0 = (unknown)

WARNING: Communication failure, is the MFRC522 properly connected?

But, it seems to be connected correctly...? (sorry, a lot of the images got rotated incorrectly, can't be bothered to fix rn.)

Here's how it's supposed to be.

I don't know what to do right now as it's not working and I have no idea why. Please just ask if you need more information.
